Hurdy-Gurdy for half advanced to advanced – Lucie Laigle (Fr)

Lucie Laigle

Lucie Laigle will be giving a workshop this weekend especially for intermediate to advanced players. Lucie wrote:

“First, we will focus on hurdy-gurdy interpretation. Making the hurdy-gurdy dance means highlighting the cadence through both melodic and rhythmic playing. We will therefore dissect certain melodies in order to make them danceable, working on left-hand ornamentation and right-hand wrist techniques.
Next, making the hurdy-gurdy dance also involves creating arrangements that serve the dance. In the second part of the workshop, we will invent additional musical elements together to accompany the melody (modal harmonies, loops, exploring different playing styles of the hurdy-gurdy). The goal will be to create one or several beautiful arrangements designed to make people dance at the bal!
The repertoire will be quite varied, ranging from traditional tunes from Central France to more recent folk melodies.”

Level of playing

Participants are from intermediate to advanced level. They have basic mastery of regular three- and four-beat & are already familiar with playing typical folk melodies. They have far surpassed the beginner level, have previously followed workshops/courses or have been playing motivated and intensively for at least two years. If in doubt, the level can be discussed.
In comparison with our Saturday course: this workshop is intended for approximately the same level as the intermediate to advanced course that Cor currently teaches. Consult with your teacher if necessary.
The workshop is given in English.

Maximum amount of participants: 12

Lucie Laigle

Lucie has been passionate about the hurdy-gurdy and dance music since childhood. She trained at the Bourges Conservatory until she obtained her DEM (Diplôme d’étude musicale) and then at Cefedem Aura in Lyon to obtain her DE (Diplôme d’État). The music of central France, particularly the Berry region, sets the pace for her daily life as a musician and teacher. She plays at dances with the groups Duo Azare, Cosmos Chocolat, Amassà or solo, and performs in concerts and shows with Mounes and Rocío. Away from the stage, she teaches hurdy-gurdy lessons in Lyon and runs the EDMT in Bourges.
