Bagpipes beginners to half advanced – Rémi Decker
This course is for players ranging from beginners to those at a slightly below-intermediate level who wish to continue developing their playing. Using simple melodies, you’ll dive further into exploring your instrument’s possibilities. This workshop is open to beginners – for example, those who have been playing for a year – but it is also very suitable for slightly more advanced players who have been playing for a while.
Rémi wrote us: “Melodies from here and there (France, Belgium,…) will be covered, mostly with one eye on the dance and the other on the music. Embellishments will be covered depending on the level: repeats, vibratos, rolls, finger taps… as well as variations on simple melodies.
The idea is that participants will leave the workshop with a “full package”, allowing them to play some tunes for dancers and listeners.
We opt for learning by ear initially, with sheet music in the sights, if needed! The course will be taught part in group, part one-on-one.”
Level of playing
Rémi takes different levels into account. Depending on your playing level, he will challenge you. That is why this workshop is open to beginners – for example, those who have been playing for a year – but it is also very suitable for slightly more advanced players who have been playing for a while.
You are expected to be able to play the major notes on your scale fluently and to have no trouble maintaining pressure on your bagpipes. If in doubt, please consult your teacher.
About Rémi Decker
Rémi Decker (°1983) is a versatile Belgian musician of international fame. He grew up in a musical environment and started playing bagpipe at the age of 10. Driven by his enthusiasm and curiosity he started working as a self-taught musician. He soon won various competitions and established his name as young virtuoso.
Rémi Decker is active in projects such as GRIFF TRIO, TRIO MARODEUR and makes audiovisual children’s shows such as ZIGOTO and 2 OGEN, 2 OREN.
