About electronics and effect pedals

Jimi Hellinga will teach a workshop this day especially for (half) advanced players. He will focus on using electronics with your hurdy-gurdy play. Jimi writes about the workshop:

“During this workshop, we will learn about various effect pedals, pickups, microphones and amplification. This also includes trying out various effect devices, and listening to what all of this can add to your own hurdy-gurdy play.
We will listen to the difference between pickups and microphones, learn a bit about sound engineering and will be creating fun sounds. I’d like to use one or two simple and well-known melodies as a basis, with sheet music as support. The tunes will mainly serve as a means of transport.
Experience with electronics is not required.”

Level of playing

Participants are from intermediate to advanced level. They have basic mastery of regular three- and four-beat & are already familiar with playing typical folk melodies. They have far surpassed the beginner level, have previously followed workshops/courses or have been playing motivated and intensively for at least two years. If in doubt, the level can be discussed.
In comparison with our Saturday course: this workshop is intended for approximately the same level as the intermediate to advanced course that Gertjan taught the past year. Consult with your teacher if necessary.

Please note: This workshop is about using electronics with your hurdy-gurdy play; it greatly helps when participants can already play with amplification. For example, their hurdy-gurdy already has built-in pickups, they play electro-acoustically. Or they use a clip-on microphone. When participants already own a microphone, effects, small amplifier and an extension box/cord, they can take this to the workshop after consultation.
There are limited seats in the workshop for participants without their own amplification: Jimi has a very limited amount of spare pickup microphones and 2 amplifiers available.
