This workshop is for all musicians and singers who want to learn more about their stage presentation.

Performing requires more than rehearsing

When you are playing something for someone else as a musician, you are actually already performing. This can be in a big stadium, a cafe, on a folk ball, at home, or in the streets. Naturally, you rehearse for this, but… a performance is about more than just the music…

Sander is an experienced musician and theatre maker. For this workshop, we’ve asked him questions such as:

How do you enter a stage?
How do you stand on a stage? And how do you exit one gallantly?
When making a music video: how do you stand? What to think of regarding posture?
And how do you start a set? As the start is actually before the very first note… I noticed that there are quite some musicians that like to start their first tune right after the final soundcheck squeek, with all bags and cases still around them. How do you prepare the public for that very first tune?
And what to do with the talks in-between tunes?
And when you are finished… how do you put an end to your set? How to exit the stage? And can you perhaps create an encore-worthy final applause using only your posture and way of exiting the stage?

This workshop is aimed at musicians and singers who perform on stage or who are about to take the plunge and want to improve their stage presence and charisma.

About Sander van der Schaaf

Sander has been following the folk music since a very young age. He has played on many folk balls with his groups Lirio, Le Petit Boeuf, Té and E=MTé2. Sander has a background in theatre programming, theatre making and as a drama teacher.
