All instruments – Ensemble: Gabriel Chiapello (Fr)

Gabriel Chiapello

This workshop is open for all instruments: violins, flutes, percussion, gurdies, bass, guitars, cellos and all other instruments are welcome.

“The programme includes work on arrangement and group creation. The aim is to give you the tools you need to enjoy creating and playing together. First, we will learn how to make music together, and then we will try out different arrangement techniques: isolating timbres, writing second voices, harmonising, improvising—in short, giving shape to our ideas. We will start with traditional pieces or more recent compositions and work together to develop arrangements for all types of instruments.”

Level of playing

Participants must have sufficient command of their instrument to be able to play together with other musicians. They have outgrown the beginner’s level and are of (semi) advanced level. They can easily pick up a melody to play together. The teacher will bring sheet music, but for those who are quicker to hear, music will be taught by ear.
The workshop will be given in English.

Maximum amount of participants: 25

Gabriel Chiapello

Gabriel Chiapello is a young multi-instrumentalist musician from Alsace. Alongside his classical training, he has always drawn inspiration from the oral musical traditions of Brittany, Alsace and southern Germany. Born to a German mother and French father, he grew up straddling the two nations, immersing himself in the musical cultures on both sides of the Rhine.
A multiple winner of the German national competition “Jugend Musiziert”, he is also involved in several musical projects, hosting folk dances.
After completing his studies in electronics in Grenoble, he moved to Rennes to study for a Master’s degree in Digital Creation. It was in this context that he focused his thesis on the use of electronics in traditional music in France, before turning professional on stage. He now performs with various groups such as Cosmos Chocolat, Duo Azare and Duo Nello, where he exercises his skills as an accordionist and clarinettist.
