Ensemble for all instruments – Lucas Thébaut

This workshop focuses on ensemble playing for all instruments. Besides hurdy-gurdy and bagpipes, other instruments that can play together with these are also welcome, e.g. accordion, accordion, guitar, winds, bass, percussion or other instruments! Please indicate instrument and tuning clearly when registering.

The teacher has not yet sent a further description of the workshop content, but expect something along the lines of Lucas Thébaut’s work with Balsy Swing, Petit Piment, Le Gros trio, Turbobal or his solo work. Lucas is not only an excellent musician, he is also a much sought-after balfolk dance teacher. This combination allows him to dive deep into danceable music in this ensemble workshop.

Level of playing

Participants must have a good command of their instrument in order to be able to play together with other musicians. They have outgrown the beginner’s level and are of (semi) advanced level. Participants can of course tune their own instrument correctly & the instrument is in good condition. They can quickly pick up a melody to play together. Music is probably learned by ear, with sheet music afterwards.

About Lucas Thébaut

Lucas Thébaut is a diatonic accordeon player from Poitou (France). He started music and dance in his early twenties and hasn’t stopped yet experimenting to improve phrasing and groove over various repertoires in search of what in dance and music movement will make the specificity, the essence of each dance.  All these elements brought together in a unique, musical universe.

After 20 years of thinking and tinkering, of sharing experiences and joy all over the world, still the path ahead lies anew, full of possibilities – and the journey continues. Rest assured that he will never miss an opportunity to share a tune, a dance … or a drink with you.
