Jean-Laurent Cayzac and Florian Huygebaert are offering an ensemble music workshop open to all instruments with an average level of practice. The pieces on offer will be compositions or traditional dance music from or traditional dance music from central France. Together, we’ll play and develop the central French trad sound, cadences and grooves, melodic variation, counter-singing and rhythmic variation, as well as harmonisation.
Level of playing
Participants must have sufficient command of their instrument to be able to play together with other musicians. They have outgrown the beginner’s level and are of (semi) advanced level. They can easily pick up a melody to play together. The teacher will bring sheet music, but for those who are quicker to hear, music will be taught by ear.
The workshop will be given in English.
Maximum amount of participants: 25
Over Jean-Laurent Cayzac

Jean-Laurent Cayzac is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger. He can be found playing double bass and/or Telecaster, surrounded by acidic and versatile effects pedals. He samples his instruments on the fly, multiplying and twisting the possibilities of sound, creating an ephemeral improvised mini-orchestra. Over the last twenty years or so, his musical career has spanned a wide range of musical genres: traditional music (La Machine, Yateveo, Yaïa, Collectif Markus, le Manège), chanson (Camille Hardouin, Lecoq, Nicolas Joseph, Marie Tout Court) and contemporary music (Itak, Tukki Bukki, Robert Love, Yas & the Lightmotiv, Los Angelas).

Florian Huygebaert

Florian Huygebaert spent his childhood in a family environment where dance and popular music were omnipresent. After studying classical trumpet at music school, Florian opted for Afro-Cuban percussion and jazz drums at the Lille Conservatoire. A medallist in both disciplines, he also pursued his musical career in a variety of bands (La Machine, Le Sextet à Claques, Zlabya, Ormuz, Itak…). His curiosity has led him to develop a passion for different musical styles (salsa, traditional French music, jazz, etc.).
