Bagpipes (half) advanced- Marieke van Ransbeeck (Be)

In this workshop, Marieke will work on techniques and embellishments using various beautiful melodies. Marieke did not want to teach too many melodies, so that there is time and space to focus on deepening and technique. Marieke writes:

“I would like to immerse you and your instrument in a new repertoire bath with mainly folk / traditional music from the Far North (Sweden, Finland and Denmark) and Belgium. This music will range from dance music to debauched ballads. We process the music at a nice tempo and at the same time pay attention to ornaments, groove of the melody and playing together (unison and polyphony).
If you have other bagpipes in D or C, they are always welcome as an extra. Bring your favorite bagpipe melody (may be polyphonic).”

Level of playing

Participants have a good command of the playing pressure, they do not have to think about blowing & pushing and can keep a constant tone. They know all the notes on the shawm (minor, major and playing the higher notes) and can play them fluently and reasonably in tune, you dare to play a few melodies in public. A few years of playing experience is needed to be able to keep up with the melodies that will be learned by ear.
In comparison with our Saturday course: this workshop is intended for approximately the same level as the intermediate to advanced course that Wouter Kuyper currently teaches. Consult with your teacher if necessary.

Marieke will not work with scores in this workshop.
