Registration has started!


Always wanted to learn how to play the hurdy-gurdy or bagpipe? Or are you an advanced player who wants to improve his or her playing? This will be possible during the Courseday of Draailier and Doedelzak. During this day there will be hurdy-gurdy, bagpipe and other music courses for the beginner and the advanced player. Lack of an instrument is not an excuse, because we have instruments for rent for the beginner groups.

The Programm

The courses will start on saturday the 6th of october at 10.00 until 17.00. This day will take place in primary school "De Griffel" in Zeist (near Utrecht). There is a map on the page about the location

The Courses


Courses for all type of instruments

Ensemble: Breizh Music - Ies Muller (NL)

This workshop is open for all instruments. Ies Muller plays wooden flute, binjou, bombarde and is well know for his collaborations like Duo Muller Munnelly. Ies is one of the best flute-players of the Netherlands and is regarded as an expert on music from Ireland and Bretagne. In this workshop we're going to focus on the music from Bretagne.
entry requirements: Players are sufficiently familiar with their instruments and are able to pick up tunes by hearing.

Ensemble: playing balfolk for Dancers - Greet Wuyts (Be)

This workshop is focused on balfolk music. How do you play your tunes on such a way, that everybody will like to dance? Greet is a well known balfolk-musician who teached on music schools ands workshopweekends. Listen to her with her band Cecilia. This workshop is open for all instruments.
entry requirements: Players are sufficiently familiar with their instruments and are able to pick up tunes by hearing.

Nyckelharpa - Jantien Schaap (NL).

In this workshop we will focus on playing techniques and bowing patterns. We focus on Classical or Baroque music and search for polyphonic variations. We use only a few melodies on which we go deeper in the techniques and how to develop the full potential of the instrument.

These bagpipe courses are about the French, Flemish or Low Lands pipes (tuned in g).

(More) Advanced bagpipes - Olle Geris (Be)

Bagpipe-expert Olle Geris will challenge advanced to more advanced players to learn more about their playing style. She will focus on different techniques for a cornemuse in G/C. Olle is an excellent teacher and player, and well know for the beautifull bagpipes she makes.

Galician music for a Cornemuse in G - Benoit Kensier (Be)

The workshop is for half advanced to advanced players and will be focussing on Galician music, it's style and techniques for a cornemuse/bagpipe in G. He will focus on just a few tunes, which he uses to go deeper in different techniques.
Benoit: "The Galician bagpipe (Gaita) is for me synonymous with a great trip to Galicia, full of passion, enriching discoveries and great encounters".
Initiated to the world of the bagpipe since his 12 years, Benoît Kensier begins with the bagpipe of Center France and the musette. Later, the Galician bagpipe (with which he multiplies his stays in Galicia) will come to enrich his musical knowledge with various great gaita-players. As a musician, he has collaborated on stage several times with internationally renowned musicians like Galician Anxo Lorenzo, Carlos Núñez, Susana Seivane. But also with the Irish group The Chieftains or the Belgian-Galician group, Ialma. He has also performed at the Zagreb (Croatia) Bagpipes Festival or in Galicia with the Cambados Philharmonic Orchestra.

Bagpipe for begunners - Puck Duits (NL)

This workshop is especially for people who just started with the bagpipes. For players from beginners to almost half advanced. You have had some lessons and you play a bit. The workshop will go further into playing the pipes. We will work on techniques, playing styles and learn off course some new tunes.

Bagpipe for beginners - Jonneke Jorissen (NL)

Always wanted to play the bagpipes? This workshop is especially for people who never played the bagpipes before. The workshop is the oppurtunity to discover the basics of the instrument while learning easy but beautiful melodies. Instruments can be rented and two weeks beforehand there is an introductory morning (23th of September) in which you will receive the rental instrument and the basic information needed to get started the first two weeks.

Hurdy-gurdy courses


Hurdygurdy (more) advanced - Francesco Giusta (It)

This day (more) advanced HG-players can challenge themselves in a workshop of this young player from Italy. Francesco Giusta will give a hurdygurdy workshop for advanced and (more) advanced players. Francesco Giusta started to play hurdygurdy in 2001 when he was 11 and he developed his tecnique with some masters of the instrument like J. F. Maxou Heintzen, P. Bouffard, G. Jolivet, G. Diaz, T. Nouant, S. Durand and V. Clastrier. Within the years he has played in several bands and has been to many folk and medieval festivals in Italy and France. Since 2011 he has been giving masterclasses in Germany and lessons in Turin. In 2015 he won the first price at the hurdygurdy challenge in the 'Le son continue' festival in Chateaux d'Ars, France. Hurdygurdy (haf) advanced - Barnaby Walters (GB)

Barnaby is off course well known for the beautiful instruments he build, but he's also a great teacher! This day Barnaby Walters will give a hurdygurdy workshop for halfadvanced and advanced players. He will also focus on playing techniques and ornamentation.

Hurdy-gurdy for begunners - Joop Aalbers (NL)

This workshop is especially for people who just started with the hurdygurdy. You have had some lessons and you play a bit. The workshop will go further into playing the hurdygurdy. We will work on techniques and Joop will focus on playing dancing tunes.


Hurdy-gurdy for beginners: Cor Westbroek (NL)
